The Ghana National Ambulance Service teams dotted around centres across the length and breadth of the country will now find it easy tracking the location of victims during emergencies using SnooCode’s “CodeRed” mobile application.
Thumbs up to Vodafone Ghana’s support for such an innovative project which is aimed at reducing emergency response times and accurately locating victims even in situations where there is no internet connection. Upon receipt of the code, the emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) will be able to save time as they navigate to the exact location of the victim.
The code generated is unique and secure, hence no two place have the same sequence of numbers and letters. The code is easy to memorise its only requires the user to know the alphabet and the numbers (two) 2 to (nine) 9.This means the system is accessible for users with low levels of literacy.
The two times award winning mobile application at the World Summit Awards as the Mobile Content Winner 2014 and African Content Award Winner 2014, SnooCode developed by a young Ghanaian app developer Sesinam Dagadu of tinyDavid a technological solutions firm based in Accra, Ghana, can be easily downloaded free on Google playstore and this answers the question of how to create comprehensive addressing system in developing countries like Ghana. The app does this by generating a unique code for every location in Ghana with just the click of a button. This unique code then becomes the user address.
It also allows a user to save addresses, share them publicly, send them privately to friends and family and share them with service providers. The application can be used anywhere once the code is generated for a particular location, then upon receiving your number or code by any of your contacts in ones address navigating to your location becomes very simple and convenient.
Speaking at a brief event to launch the mobile app, one of the Trustees of Vodafone Group Lord Dr. Michael Hastings of Scarisbrick noted how Vodafone as a telecommunications company, has always placed invaluable importance on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and continue to look for creative opportunities to contribute to the communities in which we operate through the Vodafone Ghana. According to him SnooCode came into existence as a result of an initiative launched by Vodafone Foundation Ghana dubbed – ‘Mobile 4 Good’ aimed at supporting various organisations using mobile technology to solve socio-economic challenges and improving lives across the country.
“With the launch of SnooCode, we are reiterating our promise to invest more into the communities we serve, reach out to people in need and promote high standards in the telecommunication industry” he said.
