Key Takeaways:
Samsung could release an update for the Galaxy S24 series that will bring major improvements to its already impressive cameras. The rumored firmware is set to be released in August, alongside the rollout of new Galaxy AI features for the company’s flagship Android smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy S24 To Get Major Camera Upgrades
Reliable tech tipster Ice Universe, who was the first to report on the update, said it will optimize existing features like HDR support, white balance, overexposure, over-processing, Face optimization, and video zoom.
Leaks suggest that Samsung may not improve the quality of shots captured using the Galaxy S24 Ultra at zoom levels above 10x, regardless of whether the phone is in a normal or night setting. This has disappointed some users.
Samsung’s current setup of a hybrid zoom keeps the image quality intact for zoom levels of up to 10x, but beyond that point, the algorithms struggle to keep up. This has been a major issue for photographers and enthusiasts who specifically purchased the phone for its class-leading cameras.
The S24 Ultra was released alongside the standard S24 and S24 Plus models back in January. The Ultra features a 200-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel 5x periscope lens, and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto lens.
Samsung made sure the Galaxy S24’s cameras will be better than last year’s S23. For example, the S23 had a 10 telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, which was replaced by the 50MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom in this year’s model.
However, after extensive testing, it was revealed that despite being the better lens, the super-telephoto on the Galaxy S24 Ultra performed as well, if not better, than the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 Will Get Improved AI And Camera Features With OneUI 6.1.1
Samsung is known to improve the camera on its smartphones via software updates. Last month, there were reports that the One UI 6.1.1 update is expected to introduce multiple camera features, specifically for the S24 Ultra.
Interestingly, the One UI 6.1.1 will be released with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 on July 10th during the Galaxy Unpacked event at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The OS is set to improve the outdoor performance of the Galaxy S24’s camera.
The July update is yet to be here and Samsung is already preparing to release the next one in August.
What To Expect From Samsung Galaxy S25?
Rumors are strong about next year’s Samsung Galaxy S25 series. The company is widely expected to remove the Plus model to simplify the lineup.
In the camera department, next year’s flagship will replace the current 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto with new 50MP lenses. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is set to ditch its boxy design for a smoother and more rounded shape.
Next year’s Samsung flagship will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Exynos series processors. There were reports that the company could replace the Snapdragon SoC with Exynos on the smaller Galaxy devices. Dimensity’s MediaTek processor is also expected to be an option when choosing your Galaxy S25 next year.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra could be the thinnest high-end Samsung phone since the Note 20 Ultra.
Ice Universe claims the new camera patch for the Galaxy S24 will be available to download in August.
