The October 2024 stream hardware and software survey results have been released, revealing NVIDIA’s dominance in the PC gaming graphics market. According to Valve’s data, NVIDIA’s GeForce graphics cards command a 77.37% market share. Notably, the top 34 discrete GPUs, encompassing both mobile and desktop graphics cards, are exclusively NVIDIA GeForce products.
The stream survey’s desktop GPU rankings reveal a challenging scenario for AMD’s Radeon. The most popular Radeon option, the Radeon RX 6600, ranks 35, followed by the outdated Radeon RX 580. Both the cards are several generations older. In stark contrast, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 maintains its position as the most popular game GPU.
In the list, there are AMD with two RDNA 3 lineups—the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT, which seem to appear at the bottom. This marks a positive step for AMD. In the top 20, there were five entries from NVIDIA’s newest GeForce RTX 40 series (the Ada Lovelace), which reveals its huge success for NVIDIA.
Intel’s arc graphics have made their debut in the stream survey, represented by its generic “Intel arc graphics” entry, which corresponds to integrated arc graphics found in Intel’s latest mobile processor. Meanwhile, AMD’s integrated Radeon graphics, including the Radeon RX 780M GPU, also maintain a strong presence in the list.
AMD’s gains are primarily concentrated in the integrated graphics sector, where NVIDIA does not compete. When we look into other hardware trends and companies, Team Red is lower on the list. The widely used operating system is Windows 11 still, and 1080p is the resolution that most people prefer according to the list. When it comes to CPU, Intel continues to dominate with 66%.
The survey also finds why NVIDIA’s latest GPU range hasn’t gained much attention among Steam users. With 1080p being the most popular gaming resolution, it is clear that many users do not require the extreme processing power of high-end GPUs like the RTX 4080. For 1080p gaming, a more mid-range option like the RTX 3060 would be a more suitable choice. The list of the top 20 GPUs according to Steam 2024 October is given below.
