The total number of mobile subscribers in Senegal has topped 12.661 million, for a penetration rate of around 93%, reports the Senegalese telecoms regulator, the Agence de Regulation des Telecoms et Postes (ARTP).
In its quarterly statistics reports to 30 June 2013, ARTP says this represents an increase of 3.72% from the previous quarter. The volume of calls in the quarter also increased – to 3.2 billion minutes, compared with a total of 2.7 billion minutes in the previous quarter. Prepaid connections still dominate the market, with 99.3% of the share. However, the postpaid market grew by 8.16% during the quarter.
The number of fixed line connections dropped by 0.3% in the second half of 2013.
