Samsung is gearing up to launch a special edition model of its flagship foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which will become the company’s most expensive smartphone to date.
The device has been in the news over the past few weeks, and a launch was expected late last month. As per reports by Korean publication FNNews, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will break cover on October 25. The smartphone is poised to start from $2,200.
Samsung Set To Launch Galaxy Z Fold 6 “Slim” On October 25
Over two weeks, numerous details about the Z Fold 6 Special Edition, also known as the “Z Fold 6 Slim” leaked online. FNNews has shed some light on the upcoming device, sharing renders from popular Samsung leaker Evan Blass.
The render showed the rear of a phone that appears to be another variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, seemingly the Special Edition. It features the same triple-camera setup with the raised island and individual camera rings. On the side, the phone sports two buttons, which are presumably the volume rocker and power button.
It also appears to have a thin and flat mid-frame, which adds to speculations that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition could be the Korean electronics giant’s thinnest foldable smartphone to date. It will have a thickness of just over 10mm, and for context, the regular Z Fold 6 features a 12.1 mm side profile.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim Will Get A 6.5in Outer Display And 8in Inner Display With A 5MP Under-display Camera
The leaner form factor does not mean any compromises. As per rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim will sport a larger 6.5-inch external display and an 8-inch internal display. With regards to color options, the foldable will only be available in black.
A report by the Galaxy Club suggests that Samsung may finally upgrade its Under Display Camera (UDC) from a 4-megapixel to a 5MP sensor, debuting it on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. Android Authority claims that Samsung is considering using a titanium backplate instead of stainless steel for the new device.
If Samsung opts for the titanium casing, then the Z Fold 6 Slim will become the company’s first foldable smartphone to use the material. Previously, it used either stainless steel or carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the Galaxy Z Fold series.
The company is releasing a slimmer and lighter version of its flagship foldable to compete with the likes of Vivo, Honor, and Oppo, which have managed to reduce the thickness of their foldable smartphones significantly. The Honor Magic V3 measures just 9.2mm when folded, while the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro comes in at 11.2mm in the folded state.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim will be exclusive to South Korea and China, which are the world’s largest markets for foldable smartphones.
