Key Takeaways:
The launch of the next generation of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S25, is months away, but rumors surrounding the device are growing strong.
We’ve already heard news that all versions of the Galaxy S25 could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Gen 4 chip instead of Samsung’s own Exynos. However, a new leak from the trusted Dutch source ‘GalaxyClub’ claims that the S25 may not be getting a major upgrade in the camera and battery departments over this year’s model.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Expected to Retain S24’s 50MP Main Camera
The Galaxy S25 is widely expected to ship with a 50-megapixel main camera, marking the fourth time the same camera specification is found on the model, dating back to the Galaxy S22 released a little over two years ago.
The report did not provide any details about the sensor size, which is instrumental to the camera’s performance. Samsung is generally conservative when it comes to upgrading the cameras on its smartphones.
GalaxyClub also reported on the front-facing camera of the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, which is expected to be a 12MP sensor, much like the Galaxy S24 and S23 series. The website did mention that Samsung plans to upgrade the telephoto and ultrawide lenses, but the changes are yet to be confirmed.
The outlet claims the Galaxy S25 will retain the 4,000mAh battery from the S24. So, it looks like next year’s flagship Samsung smartphone could be a mild upgrade at best over the current generation.
Samsung Hires Mercedes-Benz Designer to Redefine the Galaxy Brand
Other rumors suggest that the Galaxy S25 will feature a fresh overall design. According to a report by SamMobile leaker Revengnus, Samsung has tasked former Mercedes-Benz design lead Ilhwan Lee with redefining the Galaxy brand’s past image to provide a fresh new feel.
Android Headlines reported that Samsung is currently testing four prototypes for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. There was one with thinner bezels and the same frame as the S24 Ultra, a model with thinner and flatter frame with slimmer bezels, thinner side bezels but thicker at the top and bottom, and a thinner frame with rounded edges.
From what we know so far, the front of the Galaxy S25 Ultra will look mostly the same as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, there are claims that Samsung might increase the display size to something closer to 6.9 inches. This could mean that the device will grow slightly larger, but it also points to thinner bezels and a different aspect ratio.
It’s not just the Ultra that will be getting bigger. Korean blogger ‘yuex1122’ has claimed that the standard Galaxy S25’s screen could increase to 6.36 inches. If true, this would mark the second time in the last three generations that Samsung has increased the diagonal screen size of the regular Galaxy.
Samsung has also been working on a next-generation OLED display that would support fingerprint scanning anywhere on the screen. There are also reports that the screen would be able to scan multiple fingers at once.
Galaxy S25 Will Ship With Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Exynos 2500 Chips
On the AI front, the Galaxy S25 series has been confirmed by Samsung to run Gemini Nano 2. The company is working with Google to build a dedicated AI accelerator for its new Exynos 2500 processor.
This means that Samsung will continue with its two-pronged strategy of offering the Galaxy S25 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC in some regions while others will be getting Galaxy S25 powered by Exynos 2500.
Samsung plans to use stack technology for the battery in the S25 series. According to The Elec, the company’s research and development department is considering bringing the battery technology commonly used in electric vehicles over to smartphones.
Using stacking, battery cells can be arranged in such a way that there is higher energy capacity inside a smaller volume. The arrangement could provide a 10% improvement in energy density.
The South Korean electronics giant usually launches its Galaxy S series smartphones at the beginning of the year. The last three times, the release date has been in January and February. We assume Samsung will keep the same cadence for the Galaxy S25.
