Key Takeaways:
Samsung’s next flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S25, and S25 Ultra, are a long way from launch, but information about highly-anticipated Android smartphones is already starting to surface, keeping fans on their toes.
Samsung Will Retain The 5,000mAh Battery And 45W Fast Charging From The S24 Ultra For The S25 Ultra
New reports about the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s battery and charging specifications have leaked and to the disappointment of users, it does not look to be a major upgrade from the S24 Ultra.
According to reports by prolific tipster Ice Universe, the S25 Ultra will sport the exact battery as the S24 Ultra at 5,000mAh. Furthermore, the device’s maximum charging capacity will remain unchanged at 45W.
While the S25 Ultra has been rumored to be a drastic change, at least on the design front, from the S24 Ultra, it appears that some of the phone’s internals will remain the same as this year’s model.
Another leaker, who goes by the name Digital Chat Station (DCS), went on the Chinese social media platform Weibo to share some more details about the specifications of Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone.
According to the tipster, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has been filed for use in China. The device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset and will come with 3x mid-focus and 5x periscope ultra-telephoto lenses, alongside the 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging.
Chinese Phone Brands Are Putting 6,000mAh Batteries In Their Phones
While the battery spec looks decent on paper, rumor has it that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s charging rate will be far behind what’s currently available and the 5,000mAh cells will become old news by the time the phone comes out.
Samsung is not alone in this regard. Google has stayed put with its 30W fast charging speeds on the Pixel for years, while Apple’s flagship iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max support 20W fast charging.
DCS highlighted that 6,000mAh batteries are becoming the standard in China as some of Samsung’s biggest competitors in the country are already offering flagships with bigger battery capacity.
In terms of charging rates, the figure has jumped to 100W in recent years, which makes the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 45W charging rate sound paltry. Moreover, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, which is expected to power most Android flagships that will be coming out in 2025, has been reported to be quite power-hungry.
This could be another reason why other manufacturers are putting bigger battery cells in their devices. However, Samsung’s approach could be more safety-oriented, as it had a bad experience with batteries bursting into flames on the Galaxy Note 7, due to which the phone had to be discontinued less than two months after launch.
While the information regarding the battery is new, we have already seen leaks regarding the chip and cameras. It is well known by now that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a three-lens layout for its cameras, which includes a 200-megapixel main sensor, a 50MP telephoto, and a 50MP ultrawide lens.
S25 Ultra Is Getting A More Rounded Design And Can Be Optioned With A MediaTek Dimesity Chipset
Previously, Ice Universe reported that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be more rounded on the edges, making it much easier to hold in the palm of your hand. This will be quite a departure from the sharp-edged, boxy design that we have become accustomed to with the Galaxy Ultra series.
Other rumors speculate that Samsung will offer the Galaxy S25 series with three chipset options: Snapdragon, Exynos, and MediaTek. Although this information has not been confirmed, Samsung already offers a choice between Snapdragon and Exynos SoCs for the S24 and S24 Plus in some markets.
Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra in the first quarter of 2025.
