Key Takeaways:
Samsung has revealed that it used the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra to shoot first-person video (FPV) footage of the sailing events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The South Korean electronics giant, which has been involved with the Olympics for nearly 40 years, is the official wireless communications and computing equipment partner of this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Samsung Shot Paris Olympics Sailing And Surfing Events Using The Galaxy S24 Ultra
During the sailing events in Marseille, Samsung installed the Galaxy S24 Ultra on each of the competition boats, offering viewers a unique viewing angle from the athletes’ perspective. This innovative approach created an immersive viewing experience that brought fans closer to the action than ever before.
The smartphone was also mounted on the athletes’ shoulders and the buoys around for the kitesurfing and windsurfing events. Samsung took additional measures like using the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology, increasing transmission power, and installing cellular relay towers on chase boats to ensure the video feed remained stable and delivered high-quality footage.
The company collaborated with the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and other partners of the games to plan the idea and related technicalities.
Paris Olympic Athletes Were Gifted Special Edition Galaxy Z Flip 6 Phones
This year’s games have brought fascinating technological innovations, especially in the space of mobile devices and connectivity. Ahead of the Paris Olympics, Samsung gifted nearly 17,000 athletes and their families a new special Paris 2024 Olympic Edition Galaxy Z Flip 6.
The smartphones were custom-built and came pre-loaded with a full suite of exclusive services and apps, which included an eSIM with 100GB of 5G data, unlimited complimentary access to public transportation in the city, and several official Olympics apps. The Olympic Edition Z Flip 6 was primarily designed to help athletes explore Paris, access essential services, and connect with new people.
We all saw the Olympic opening ceremony where 10,500 athletes floated down the Seine River in the designated boats of their countries. Starting from the Austerlitz Bridge, the parade took a 6 km route through central Paris, passing some iconic landmarks and Olympic venues before reaching the Trocadero.
The entire parade was surprisingly shot on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in HDR. The company partnered with Orange to create France’s first standalone private 5G network, which was used to stream the entire ceremony live to millions of viewers worldwide.
Samsung’s Olympics involvement began with the ‘Call Home’ program at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. The company introduced the Wireless Olympics Works (WOW) app for athletes in Athens in 2004, which was then made public at the Vancouver Games in 2010.
Since Nagano, Samsung has provided over 120,000 mobile products to all Olympic athletes and staff.
