Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has set released the new interconnect rate regime for telecoms operators for 2012 through 2014, showing a progressive drop in the rates over three years.
The interconnect termination rates for voice calls originating from fixed and mobile networks will be charged at 5.00 Ghana pesewa for the year 2012, dropping 4.50 Ghana pesewa in 2013 and 4 Ghana pesewa for year 2014.
The interconnect termination rate for SMS is fixed at 0.7 Ghana pesewa in 2012, dropping to 0.60 Ghana pesewa in 2013 and 0.50 Ghana pesewa in 2014.
The NCA also aimed to boost competition with an asymmetric interconnect termination rate for voice calls. New entrants and those with less than 5% market share will pay 4 Ghana pesewa for the first 24 months.
