MTN Cameroon, leader of the telecommunications sector in Cameroon has signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Public Health, authorizing MTN Cameroon to provide the public with a mobile health assistance platform dubbed MTN Health.
The MTN Health platform will enable everyone, irrespective of their location, to contact a medical doctor or hospital, ask questions, and benefit from health tips.
In Cameroon, there is an average of only one medical doctor for every 10,000 inhabitants, whereas 90% of its population has access to mobile telephony. MTN Health shall contribute to enhance access to health services by enabling users to reach, online, available medical doctors.
The MTN Health platform shall offer securitized electronic services meanwhile strictly respecting privacy, and in close collaboration with the Cameroon National Medical Council as well as other stakeholders of the Public Health sector.
Activating the MTN Health platform shall boost MTN’s engagement in improving the health of Cameroonians, said MTN. “We now live in the digital age. And ICTs offer immense possibilities which already fully benefit sectors such as Education, Commerce, Finance and Agro-food. These new technologies equally constitute a wonderful opportunity for public health in Cameroon. And our E-health service is clear testimony of such opportunity,” explains Philisiwe SIBIYA, MTN Cameroon’s Chief Executive Officer with regard to MTN Health.
