MTN has kicked off its second annual Mobile Money Month campaign in Ghana, to promote the benefits of mobile money services.
Ben Asante, acting CEO of MTN Ghana, said in launching the campaign that mobile payments were evolving rapidly and changing the way consumers and businesses operated.
He said the impact of mobile money services and their effect on socio-economic activities could not be over-emphasised and that the easy transfer of money for the purchase of goods and services had become a critical factor in creating wealth worldwide.
Asante said MTN’s campaign would focus on the activation of new users and on promotions to reward existing and new customers of MTN Mobile Money services, as well as on customer education programmes on radio and television to help customers appreciate the various ways that MTN Mobile Money services could make their lives more convenient.
According to a survey carried out by Ericsson 2011/2012, even though mobile penetration in Ghana has crossed the 90% mark, only 9% of mobile phone owners use mobile services.
