Microsoft’s New Designer App Rivals Canva With Ability To Generate Images And Designs
On Wednesday, the tech giant released the Microsoft Designer mobile app for Android and iOS and a Windows app for PC. Those with a Microsoft account can use the app for free. Most importantly, the Designer web app supports more than 80 languages.
Designer features “prompt templates” that help users jumpstart the creative process. The templates include styles and descriptions that can be experimented with and customized to be shared with other designers, who can use them to idealize their unique concepts.
The templates can be used to generate common image types like greeting cards, wallpapers, or profile avatars.
The AI-powered app can also be used to edit and restyle images. For instance, users can upload a selfie, choose from a set of styles, and prompt any extra details they want to see the platform transform the image.
Microsoft Designer will soon launch a “replace background” feature that will allow users to use text prompts to transform backgrounds in images.
DALL-E And GPT4 Turbo-Powered Designer Will Soon Be Integrated Into Word And PowerPoint
Although Designer is a standalone app, Microsoft said it will be integrating the service into the company’s other apps like Word and PowerPoint through its generative AI – Copilot.
Those with a Copilot Pro subscription can create images and designs that can be uploaded onto Word and PowerPoint projects. Microsoft will soon release a feature allowing users to create a banner for their Word document based on the nature of its content.
As part of the the announcement, Microsoft also said that the Microsoft Photos app on Windows 11 will get a deeper integration with Designer, enabling users to utilize AI to edit photos without leaving the Photos app. They can now do things like erasing objects, removing background, and auto-crop from directly within the app.
Microsoft Designer feels very similar to Canva, and the services offered by the app are also similar. When Microsoft first announced the app back in 2022, it was revealed that they would be integrating OpenAI’s image generator DALL-E and its chatbot GPT 4 Turbo.
The app will sync with both DALL-E and GPT4.
The accessibility and integrations of Designer with other Microsoft applications and OpenAI’s services will transform it into a powerful designing tool for anyone looking to enhance their creative projects with ease and efficiency. Overall, the AI-powered app provides a user-friendly and versatile platform for creating unique images and designs.
