Kenya’s Othaya Farmers’ Co-operative Society is embarking on an ICT roll-out to upgrade and improve operations.
The co-operative society, which includes 19 coffee factories, will roll out computers and link all factories in a network over the next two years.
The chairman of the society, Newton Mwangi Nderitu, the society will start with the computerisation of eight of the 19 coffee factories this financial year. The remaining factories will be computerized in the next financial year of 2013/2014.
In addition to improving operations, it is expected that better use of ICTs will help eliminate “ghost kilograms” and rampant coffee theft.
