Jumia Food Kenya has announced the launch of Jumia Prime – a subscription package that allows customers pay a standard one, three or six months fee and receive guaranteed unlimited free deliveries on all orders placed on the Jumia Food app or website.
The service, is a first of its kind in Africa, and was introduced to Kenyans aimed at enhancing customer experience and loyalty without having to worry about paying any delivery fees.
Jumia Prime will cost Sh500, Sh1,200 and Sh1,800 for one month, three months, and six months subscription respectively.
Managing Director East Africa On-Demand Services, Shreenal Ruparelia says the service is not only limited to food but also covers alcohol, groceries, shopping or pharmacy needs.
Ruparelia noted the introduction of Jumia Prime is part of the company’s objective to develop innovative ways to help customers order online without having to pay additional delivery services.
“This is also our way to expand and innovate into new areas where we continue to educate customers on the benefits of ordering online as well as building an offering that serves the local market needs,’’ Ruparelia said.
The product is fast spreading in Nairobi and its environs having expanded to satellite towns of Ruaka, Mountain View, Kitengela, and Kiambu.
In Africa, Jumia Prime is currently live in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Ghana.
Last year, the online food delivery service provider announced the launch of a mobile app aimed at revolutionising food delivery in the country.
The app also boosts online payment flow as well as the chat function; allowing customers to ask questions about Jumia Food restaurants to the customer service.
The Android App can be download from Google Play store and iOS which was updated in April last year.
The local market has seen an increase in the number of players in the food delivery segment including Glovo and Uber Eats. Glovo has been expanding outside Nairobi to include satellite towns as part of its race for market share.
