Apple has just introduced its latest iPhone 16 models to the public. But now we have to forget the iPhone 16 models because there is news about the new iPhone 18. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst has a rumor about the new iPhone 18 model.
Ming-Chi Kuo says that the upcoming iPhone 18 models, which will be launched in 2026, are equipped with a 2nm chip. This chip has the ability to make the upcoming iPhone 18 much faster and more efficient than the previous models. There will be lower-end iPhone 18 models and those are equipped with a 3nm processor. At that time, users will have to pay more money for the 2nm models and that can be found only on the higher-end models, that is iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
This is not so surprising, right? Because Apple is continuously integrating its lower-end iPhone models with less powerful chips. For example, the latest iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus come with an A18 chipset, while the higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max come with an A18 Pro chipset. They will discontinue the Pro and Pro Max models in the upcoming year too.
The A18 and A18 Pro are a representation of Apple’s advanced SoC(system-on-chip) technology. The A18 and A18 Pro have some similar features, but the Pro has certain unique features. Both the chipsets are designed using the second-gen 3nm processor, which contains very small transistors. The A18 and A18 Pro come with an enhanced 16-core Neural Engine, a 6-core CPU, and a developed memory subsystem.
While the A18 chipset comes with a 5-core GPU, the A18 Pro comes with a 6-core GPU. So the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have large memory bandwidth and higher caches when compared to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
Ming-Chi Kuo also says that the upcoming iPhone 17 models will also come with the 3nm chipset and that will be made available in 2027. Let’s say the iPhone 17 will be integrated with the A19 and A19 Pro chipset. Currently, it is hard to say about the performance of the upcoming iPhone 18 models. However, we can assume that the performance and battery life will be improved in the upcoming iPhone models. Apple has brought many remarkable changes to the newly released iPhone 16 models. The A18 chips and Apple Intelligence are some of the major upgrades.
Apart from the iPhone 18 models, we have been hearing about the upcoming iPhone 17 models too. The study says that the upcoming iPhone 17 will be more expensive than all previous iPhone models. The iPhone 17 will be integrated with a triple 48MP rear camera system and 12GB of RAM.
Another leak says that the upcoming iPhone 17 will feature an LTPO display that will enable users to change the refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The latest iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models have already come with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is not available on the base models such as iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. But according to the report, the 120Hz display will be available on the base variant of the iPhone 17 models.
Anyway, the iPhone 17 will be released in September 2025 and we will get to know more about the device in the coming year.
