The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication Kwaku Sayi Addo has paid a courtesy call on the new Administrator for Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) Mr. Kwabena Acheampong. The visit is to officially congratulate the new boss of GIFEC on his appointment, touched on the close relationship that exists between GIFEC and Telecoms Chamber and the chamber’s active participation in the GIFEC led community sensitization programs across the country over the past 3 years.
Mr Sakyi-Addo who used the occasion to wish Mr. Acheampong well in his new role and assured him of the Chamber’s preparedness to offer any help needed to assist him achieve his mandate.
“if there is anything the Chamber can do to help you achieve your mandate, I am a phone call away,” he emphasised.
Before his new appointment Mr Kwabena Acheampong was the Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA)
As part of the Ghana Information and Communication Technology for Accelerated Development (ICT4AD), the Government of Ghana in July 2004, set up Ghana Investment Fund for Telecommunications (GIFTEL) as an agency of the Ministry of Communications to facilitate the provision of universal access to basic telephony by the unserved and underserved communities in the country. The Electronic Communications Act 775 promulgated in 2008, gave the legal backing to the agency (which started operations in January 2005), changed the agency’s name to the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) and widened the scope of its mandate to include the provision of access to electronic services including ICT, broadcasting, internet, multimedia service and basic telephony, by the unserved and underserved communities in Ghana.
