Etisalat has launched a mobile payment and transfer service in Egypt.
Described as a revolutionary step in mobile commerce, the service, ‘Flous’, allows users to transfer money to other users, increase their credits and make withdrawals through Etisalat or NBE branches. The service has been launched by Etisalat Egypt, in cooperation with MasterCard, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Egypt Banks for Advanced Technology Co.
The application is reported to be the first in an Arabic language to provide financial services through mobile phones.
Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Atef Helmy, said the launch heralded the start of a new phase for financial services in Egypt.
The second stage of the Flous project will allow users to pay their bills, recharge mobile pre-paid cards and buy products and services at various shops nationwide, as well as allowing users to make online purchases using their mobile phones for payment.
