Amazon Prime Video has launched X-ray recaps allowing users to get a brief summary of their favourite TV shows without revealing the spoilers. By using generative AI technology X-ray recaps provide personalized context-oriented highlights to the audience. This approach aims to enhance the user experience and engagement time.
With the launch of online subscription platforms, the era of waiting in front of the TV to watch your favorite TV shows is over. Users subscribe to these platforms to enjoy endless and seamless video experiences including movies, TV shows, sports, live programs, and many more. Since many such platforms have aroused the need to survive as the fittest became essential, as a result, companies plan to implement features to stand out from their competitors.
Prime Video, Amazon’s subscription platform came up with an innovative approach to improve user engagement allowing users to get a brief description of their favorite show they missed or lost track of. The innovative feature called the X-ray recap is an AI-powered technology that helps users catch up with missed parts without showing spoilers. The personalized recap mechanism allows users who break the continuity of the show, whether at the beginning of an episode, middle of a show, or after a season, the X-ray recap to resume the flow without any distraction.
“The lack of continuity was a main issue faced by users while streaming their favorite shows, with the X-ray recap mechanism this issue can be solved”, said Adam Grey, the vice president of Prime Video.
X-ray recap runs using AI generative tools powered by Amazon Sagemaker technology known as Amazon Bedrock. It analyses the content and dialogues and delivers precise descriptions without losing any highlights and also without disclosing spoilers. Audiences can either access the Xray recap system directly or from the prime video detail page. They can choose what they want to view and how much they want to reveal.
The beta version of the X-ray recap is available for Amazon Fire TV-connected devices in the US and additional supporting devices can be expected by the end of the year. Currently, the X-ray recap facility can be used for Amazon originals including ‘Upload’, ‘Daisy Jones, and the Six’, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’, ‘The Wheel of Time’, and ‘The Boys. The recap will be provided up to the part the user watched the last, which means it completely eliminates the chances of giving any spoilers.
Often people depend on various online sites to get video and text recaps, which is difficult to find, and also the chances of seeing spoilers are high. This reduces the interest of people to continue watching their favorite shows. The new X-ray recap mechanism eliminates the issue and brings a personalized watching experience to users.
