Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Kwesi Ahwoi, has urged the Chief Fire Officer to develop more training programmes that will embrace ICT systems in fire fighting.
Ahwoi made the suggestion at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) passing-out parade of Recruit Course 46 at the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS) in Accra.
He said the use of ICTs would enable firefighting to attain a high level of sophistication and advanced technology in fighting and detecting fire outbreaks in the country.
Ahwoi said during the first quarter of the year, a lot of fire outbreaks were recorded throughout the country, and a greater number of these fires could have been avoided if the appropriate Fire Safety measures and technological equipment were available.
He said government was looking at the challenges facing the GNFS and urged the fire service to actively collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to undertake fire audit of all markets to identify possible lapses that could lead to market fires.
